Ann is May’s Athlete of the Month because of her unwavering commitment to the zoom workout classes during the pandemic. She didn’t let anything (even quarantine) slow her down. Way to go, Ann!
How Did You Get Started?
I got started in CrossFit through Steve Picheny, a friend who was a CrossFitter and spoke highly of it. At that time, I was still a weekender; spending most of the summer here but going back to NYC where I lived full-time and where CrossFit at that time was in short supply. It wasn’t long before I was totally hooked! When my husband and I moved to the Berkshires full-time three years ago, the first thing I did was sign up as a CFGB member!
What is your favorite exercise (or workout?)
My favorite CrossFit exercises are sled drags, rope climbs, double-unders, pistols and burpees. I call most CrossFit exercises “stupid human tricks” because if you looked at anyone else doing them, you’d think, “Who in their right mind would want to do that?!” But it hurts so good...
How about your least favorite?
My least favorite moves are pull-ups and any kind of clean/jerk because I have chronic elbow problems and they just hurt. I go under-handed for anything on the rig; which makes kipping hard.
What's your favorite thing about CrossFit Great Barrington?
My favorite thing about CFGB is the people. I’ve made so many good friends and have had so much fun with everyone. I’ve also learned a lot about myself: how to stick to a goal, how to challenge myself, and how never to give up. The lessons I’ve learned in the gym really do translate to my everyday life outside the gym. Also, Mike is hilarious. He just makes it a really fun atmosphere to be in every day. You can just see how much he cares.
